The Washington Post reports that former Clinton Associate Attorney General Webster Hubbell was paid a total of $704,152. by various friends of President Bill Clinton and Democratic supporters between 1994 and 1996, while performing little or no work to earn those fees.
At the time of the payments, Hubbell had stepped down from his position with the Clinton Administration due to his indictment for having defrauded his former clients and partners, and was believed to have been tempted to cooperate with Whitewater investigators in return for a plea deal.
Hubbell published a memoir in 1997 in which he said of his consulting deals: "it wasn't hush money".
