While giving a speech on the campaign trail, Sen. Hillary Clinton equates her technical difficulties with a microphone with the African-American struggle against slavery

"There may be some bumps along the road.  You know this reminds me of one of my favorite American heroines, Harriet Tubman. For when she made it to freedom after having been a slave and she got to New York and she could have been so happy to just stay at home and just breathe a big sigh of relief, but she kept going back down South to bring other freed slaves to freedom. And she used to say, 'No matter what happens, keep going.' So we're going to keep going until we take back the White House."

President Bill Clinton's $11 billion economic stimulus package is withdrawn, ending his hopes for being able to carry out his campaign promise to jump-start the U.S. economy

Despite the failure of the Clinton Administration to pass any stimulus program, the economy continued to slowly improve, and remained strong through his two terms, until the dot-com crash of 2000 brought on a recession.

Newsweek reports:

"There's a turncoat inside Hillary Clinton's money machine. Over the past several years, Leonore Blitz has helped raise about $250,000 for Clinton's Senate races, and she signed up early to help the new presidential campaign. But in recent weeks the Manhattan marketing consultant has secretly attended finance meetings and fund-raisers for Clinton's archrival, Barack Obama. Under intense pressure from the Clinton team to pick sides, Blitz—who bundled more than $1 million for John Kerry in 2004—felt deeply conflicted. Clinton operatives have warned donors not to contribute to other campaigns, and put a price on disloyalty: early supporters will be valued and latecomers scorned. But now Blitz is coming out of the shadows, ready to test the rules. "I have been a lifelong advocate of women and minorities' participating and running for political office," she told NEWSWEEK last week. "Therefore, I'm supporting both Clinton and Obama.""

Political donors' deep pockets can hold sticky contents for candidates

As reported by the LA Times, Haim Saban, a businessman and "fervent supporter of Hillary Clinton in her quest for the White House", is in the process of negotiating with the IRS to pay back as much as $300 million of unpaid taxes.  Saban utilized offshore tax shelters, a frequent target of Democrats' ire, to avoid being taxed on $1.5 million of capital gains.

Saban contributed more than $12 million to the Democrats and to Democratic candidates between 2001 and 2006.

A Federal judge holds President Bill Clinton in contempt of court for false testimony given during his deposition in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case.

Judge Susan Webber Wright, in her ruling, said that the President had provided false testimony in a deposition when he said that he had not had sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky.  The Judge also said that Clinton's actions had subverted the rule of law, and violated Ms. Jones' right to information relevant to her case.

In fining the President $1,202 (the Judge's travel costs to attend the deposition), the Judge noted that it was the first time in history that a President had ever been held in contempt of court

"The record demonstrates by clear and convincing evidence that the President responded to plaintiff's questions by giving false, misleading and evasive answers that were designed to obstruct the judicial process."

The White House admits that Bill & Hillary Clinton under-reported their income relating to commodities options trading on their 1980 tax returns. In paying the back taxes due to both the IRS and Arkansas tax authorities, the Clintons also owed interest on the taxes not paid, which increased the total amount due to $14,615.

The records released also contradicted claims by Hillary Clinton that she had gotten out of commodities trading during her pregnancy, due to the nerve-wracking nature of such trading. According to the newly released records, Hillary Clinton had her most active trading in the month after Chelsea was born, and continued trading until May 1980, three months after Chelsea was born.

The Clinton Administration admits that most of the highly-lucrative commodity trades in Hillary Clinton's investment account were in fact placed by James Blair, a friend and lawyer for the Tyson Foods Company, whose role Clinton Administration officials had previously described as only an adviser to Mrs. Clinton.  Tyson Foods, the biggest employer in Arkansas, would be subject to significant scrutiny by then- Attorney General Clinton, who a few months later became Arkansas Governor.

Initially, the Clinton Administration had claimed that Hillary Clinton had made all of her own trades based on her study of the Wall Street Journal.  Its next explanation was that Hillary Clinton had placed all of her own trades and did all decision-making, but that she had received advice from Mr. Blair.

Leo Melamed, former chairman of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, who had been hired by the Clintons to prove the legality of their trading, did note that Hillary Clinton's account was "nondiscretionary", meaning that only Mrs. Clinton was legally permitted to place trades on the account.
